SCST wishes to congratulate Dr Chris Eggett on his appointment to the post of Professor of Healthcare Science Education at Newcastle University.

Chris is a longstanding member of SCST’s education committee and former president of SCST. He worked for many years as a cardiac physiologist in several hospitals, mainly in north-east England, before entering academia on a part-time secondment to Newcastle University in 2011 to establish the first MSc in clinical science in the UK as part of the Scientist Training Programme in cardiac science. Chris was appointed to a full-time position with Newcastle University in 2014 and until his recent appointment he was working as Reader in Healthcare Science Education and Director of Taught Programmes in the Faculty of Medical Sciences Graduate School. He is also the Programme Director for the Postgraduate Certificate in Echocardiography.

Chris has many gained prestigious awards and appointments, including associateship of The National School of Healthcare Science; membership of the National School of Healthcare Science STP Quality and Standards Committee; the Vice Chancellor’s Education Excellence Award; and academic reviewer for the National Advancing Practice programme with Health Education England. He has also written and co-authored numerous clinical and scientific papers. Alongside his diverse academic responsibilities Chris continues to practise as a clinical scientist, performing echocardiography for Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
