Su Baxter

It has been my privilege to serve on SCST Council since 2009. I have been Honorary Secretary since 2015 and was Chair before that. Our profession is increasingly recognised for its specialist contribution within healthcare and I would welcome the opportunity to continue that journey as an elected SCST Board member...

We have much to do, including expanding our educational offering, developing professional guidance and clinical standards, supporting our members along their career pathways, promoting quality and best practice in clinical cardiac science both within and outside our profession and ensuring that the voice of members is heard. I hope you will afford me the chance to continue to contribute to the society.

Gareth Clifford

I have been a Cardiac Physiologist within the Belfast Trust since 2002. Since joining the trust I have experienced the full range of Cardiac Investigations. In 2005 I completed the then BPEG (now BHRS) exam followed by IBHRE. I have since specialised in Cardiac Rhythm Management and Electrophysiology procedures within the Device review team and the cathlabs...

I currently manage the cathlabs within the Belfast trust, which consists of 7 labs, performing a wide range of complex procedures and am supported by a great and diverse team.

I have a keen interest in education which has pushed me to organise educational evenings over a number of years for the multidisciplinary team within Cardiology. I have held training days to support Physiologists from across N. Ireland who are undertaking their BHRS exams. In 2022 I was given the opportunity to become a lecturer to the Physiology students at the University of Ulster and along with my colleagues in the other trusts have been working towards relaunching the SCST NI regional group to further promote the society on a local level.

With a background in education and a keen interest in the profession I feel I have the support of colleagues within NI which will aid me in this role.
If I were to be successful in this nomination, I would plan to further promote the SCST as a professional group locally and national.

Thomas Crane

I qualified in 2020 and currently work at Frimley Park Hospital, Surrey. I am incredibly motivated and passionate about the job, always looking to progress my knowledge and that of my colleagues. After I got my Band 6 I started to train newly qualified members of staff and other students in the department, I took a year out to complete a masters in echocardiography at imperial college and also passed the BHRS exam this year...

My aim is to complete my STP equivalence and go on to complete the HSST course to become a consultant physiologist. I have a passion for education and excellence in the field and I’m keen to promote and encourage others to choose this career.

By being on the board I aim to help motivate, support and modernise the cardiac physiology workforce whilst ensuring that patients and high standards of care are at the centre of what we do. Having trained in Wales and worked in several hospitals in the South East I have seen many different practices and standards. This gives me an insight into ways in which we can improve our field and advance our profession adapting our role to benefit the healthcare system. Cardiac Physiology is currently an unknown job among college students, this must change to decrease the national shortage in our profession and must be one of the main focusses of the new board. One which is simple but will have a massive impact on the future of our jobs. I hope to be selected as part of the new board to push change and make a good impact.

Oomesh Kishto

I have successfully completed my BSc (Hons) in Healthcare Science (Cardiovascular) at Southampton University in 2015 as part of the pioneer of the Cardiac Physiology training, PTP. Currently I am a Chief Cardiac Physiologist, Education Lead, BSE Accredited and specialising in Cardiac Rhythm Management, Cath Lab and as well as Electrophysiology study at Frimley Health NHS Trust...

I have been a SCST member since 2011 after completing my Proficiency in Electrocardiography.  I am a highly motivated person and very passionate with a lot of skills to offer. I am dedicated and reliable and will willingly take on tasks that I feel competent in without prompting. On tasks I am unfamiliar with I will take the sensible option and ask for guidance. I can use my own initiative to take charge of a situation when needed but am also willing to follow instructions when needed. I work well as a team member and alone. I am thorough in my work and will keep working steadfastly even under pressure, whilst maintaining a confident, polite, and friendly manner.

I have always been an advocate in promoting our profession and believe I have lots to offer to improve our workforce.

In 2019 SCST Update Meeting I contributed and initiated the Poster Presentation for Cardiac Physiologist and to also to my surprise I was awarded the Rising Star Award which I am living up to with a rewarding career so far.

My sports cardiology interest is strongly link with my England Beach Director Referee Role.

I wish to be considered for election to the SCST Board as I want to be part of the team helping to shape the future of Cardiac Science, providing a fulfilling career to the staff and ensuring high-quality patient care at the forefront of the profession. I am an experienced Clinical Cardiac Scientist, specialising in Echo, with almost 20 years of NHS experience...

I have had the privilege of working as a Principal Physiologist, leading a team within a successful department, and as a Trust Lead Healthcare Scientist, contributing to both local and regional projects. I have a strong background in teaching and training within Cardiology, and currently work as an associate lecturer at Newcastle University, teaching on the STP and Echo Diploma courses. I have also been a Trustee and Director of a national Cardiac charity, Little Hearts Matter.

Whilst I enjoy the opportunities to make a difference to staff and patients at a local and regional level, I now wish to pursue a national role to represent the profession and contribute to the various projects of the SCST, supporting and leading Cardiac Scientists/Physiologists across the country. I feel that my experience and skills can contribute to the SCSTs aims of ensuring the highest standards of practice and professional conduct across it’s membership, and I would relish the opportunity to join the SCST Board.

Katie Sanders

I've been working with the SCST for the past year as a co-opted member of the council and have been inspired by the passion in the team to protect and develop our exciting profession. I am keen to continue this work as an elected member of the board. During the past year I have contributed to delivering the STP equivalence sessions, reviewed standards documents, edited the SCST journal and represented SCST at the British Heart Foundation Clinical Research Collaboration (BHF CRC) meetings...

From my involvement in that group I have proposed creating a research group for SCST. I’m excited by this prospect and if elected to the board will be active in driving this initiative forward. My vision is to support cardiac scientist involvement in research from undergraduate PTP projects upwards by work such as developing relevant educational content, reviewing abstracts, and supporting grant applications to the BHF CRC’s research development fund. I hope this group will raise the profile of cardiac scientists in research. As graduate of HSST, I have a Doctorate in cardiac science and am well-placed to develop this project.

I now work as a consultant cardiac clinical scientist in an IQIPS accredited department. I am passionate about improving quality in our services and will bring this perspective to my work with the standards committee. As a consultant I work in an advanced practice role and will work with SCST to support safe development of similar roles within our profession.

Nolan Stain

I have practised as a cardiac physiologist (later clinical scientist) for nearly 25 years, primarily within the NHS but also in the private sector and abroad. My current interests have focused on integrating new technologies into clinical pathways, scientist-led reporting with advice and guidance for primary care, and quality assurance...

I am also active in promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion, particularly for LGBTQIA+ individuals and those with invisible disabilities.

I am currently Vice-President of the SCST council and have led several projects, including registering the SCST logo as a trademark, “SCST – The Professional Body for Cardiac Scientists,” to strengthen our recognition as scientists. I also worked as part of a team re-drafting and ratifying our new Articles of Association to modernise our operations as well as amend our legal name. If re-elected, I aspire to continue the second phase of these works – the creation of the society’s ‘Rules, Regulations and Codes of Conduct.’ I also plan to work with colleagues to develop a research committee to support cardiac scientist-led research.

My overall goal is to elevate the profile of cardiac scientists, associate practitioners, and cardiographers by highlighting our important role in patient care, diagnostics, intervention, therapeutics, and healthcare more generally.

Jamie Walton

Having been on the SCST council as a co-opted member for the last year, I have seen the dedicated work and exciting projects the SCST are involved in. I have had a taste of work as a council member, representing on the IQIPS ACAG committee, working within the workforce team and organising this years annual conference. I feel well placed to step forward as an elected member of council, with a good understanding of the commitment needed...

I will be completing the HSST programme in the next 12 months, so come forward with experience working in different roles within the profession, right up to stepping into a Consultant Clinical Scientist role. I am passionate about expanding the scope of practice of Cardiac Scientists, alongside delivery of quality education and training. The SCST is in a unique position, representing and uniting the Cardiac Science workforce as the professional body, it is the independent voice for the profession, at a time when exciting changes are coming. A lot of the work is understated and we have the opportunity to bring our professionals together and make a stand for the changes we want profession wide, no matter what the specialism. I want the SCST to showcase the great work going on nationally, giving our workforce the voice in these changes and being a professional body that delivers for its members.

Amy Wharmby

I currently work as a Highly Specalised Cardiac Scientist at Royal Papworth Hospital specialising in Cardiac Rhythm Management (CRM) and Electrophysiology with BHRS accreditation in both areas. I have also achieved STP equivalence. In addition to this I have authored and co-authored on several papers and case reports some of which I have presented on a national and international level......

With my career and expertise’s to date I believe I would be able to impart my experience and passion for cardiac physiology.

My main aspiration if I was to be elected would be to further the SCST from a CRM perspective, with the development of a post graduate Devices Course. Subsequently this would direct towards BHRS examination and encourage further collaboration. I believe there is also a gap to create further courses beyond the SCST certificate for example within Cath Labs. Both would open the SCST to a larger target audience. I have previously successfully set-up and ran a CRM course for Registrars as well as creating an EP training pathway. Within the development of such programs my prior experience of authoring standard operating procedures and training competencies will be of benefit in making it a success.

Laura Whitton

Extremely passionate about ECG teaching, training and ambulatory ECG reporting standards. I would be very interested in expanding this beyond the department where I have had the pleasure of supporting PTP and STP students as well as cardiographers/associate practitioners.

Debbie Wilson

I am a Cardiac Physiologist working at Mid Yorkshire NHS Teaching Trust, I have worked in most areas of cardiac physiology but chose to specialise in non invasive of which I am the team leader for that service as well as specialising in Echocardiography. I hold the BSE accreditation, Post grad Diploma in cardiac ultrasound and successfully passed the SCST Diploma recently as I decided my skills need a brush up and I enjoy a challenge....

With the society I have recently joined the education committee and still finding my feet there and I have ingrained the preceptorship program within our service which our graduates have found very beneficial.

As for the society aspirations I would like to support and enhance our standards and guidelines, encouraging and supporting the need for equivalence. Promoting the latest developments within cardiac science and developing skill sets within cardiac physiology as well as promoting our career on as many platforms as we can to show aspiring scientists another option in healthcare. I am passionate about continued professional development and how failing to do so can impact our patients / service users as well as maintaining our skills especially performing ECGs and interpretation. In that it shouldn’t be a tick box exercise to move along to the next part of cardiac investigations but ingrained in all the work we do. I have been involved in all areas of training from assistant technical officers to consultants, PTP and STP students.

Georgia Wood

I began my career as a cardiac physiologist in 2002 at London Chest Hospital, earning a BSc in Clinical Physiology (Cardiology) in 2004. My experience spans NHS and private hospitals in the UK and Australia, including a stint in industry. Currently, I'm a Band 7 Clinical Scientist at Royal United Hospital, Bath, specializing in cardiac rhythm management and implantable devices...

I hold certifications from IBHRE (2008) and EHRA (2017) and achieved STP equivalence and HCPC registration in 2021.

I am passionate about advancing scientific knowledge and high standards of practice, I’ve updated hospital-wide guidelines for patients with CIEDs and worked with IT to develop an electronic referral system. I’ve collaborated on consistent pathways for arrhythmia detection and reporting. I actively contribute to departmental meetings, promoting training opportunities for colleagues.

I believe in collaboration and leveraging technology to enhance efficiency and patient care. I believe we need to increase our sustainability as a profession in both environmental and resource terms . Joining the board, I aim to bring energy, enthusiasm, and innovative thinking to expand regional opportunities in cardiac science. With upcoming advancements in artificial intelligence, I see potential for revolutionizing our practices, improving screening efficiency, and reducing administrative costs.

Increasing SCST membership will support more cardiac scientists, thereby enhancing patient experience.
