Practitioner and Scientist Training Programmes

The National School of Healthcare Science is responsible for curricula for the Practitioner and Scientist Training Programme (PTP and STP) and Higher Specialist Scientist Training (HSST) programme.

Each programme has been designed to ensure that trainees ‘work at the limits of science’, enabling the delivery of the NHS constitutional commitment. The curricula focus on practical learning in the workplace coupled with academic learning at University. This training equips trainees with the skills and knowledge to engage at the forefront of their specialty, helping them to drive innovation within patient care.

Their aim is to provide scientifically robust, future proofed curricula. Their vision is to train Healthcare Scientists to meet the challenges of today’s health service and embrace the technologies of tomorrow.

They manage and update their curriculum through systematic review to continuously enhance the quality of learning for their trainees.
