A message from Professor Dame Sue Hill: Deploying the Healthcare Science Workforce to Support the NHS Clinical Delivery Plan for COVID-19

Dear Colleagues,

This is a time of unprecedented change and as professionals we need to be flexible to meet the requirements of the NHS. This document has been produced to support the redeployment of our healthcare science workforce during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Our specialist scientific skills have never been more in demand within the NHS and our ability to adapt and be flexible in the current situation will be core to working within the multidisciplinary team. Our workforce will be required to work in new ways, within new clinical settings and will need to push the boundaries of their skills and innovation, and I know we are ready for this challenge.

This document includes resources which can be used to up-skill and support individuals to enable them to work within these new roles and environments, and also a self-assessment tool which can be used to assess competencies. As this is an evolving situation we anticipate there may be a need to update this document with additional resources.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the hard work, the incredible resilience which you have all shown so far, and the unremitting resolve, which I know will see us through these challenging times.

Yours sincerely,
